Saint Peter High School junior Eleanor Kennedy recently received Smith College (Northhampton, Mass.) Book Award during a presentation with Smith Club of Minnesota representative Sabrina Berent Infante (Class of ‘96). Infante presented Kennedy with a certificate and a copy of the book, Band of Sisters (2021), by Lauren Willig.
Smith College's Book Award program recognizes an outstanding junior in our school’s community who exemplifies the academic achievement, leadership qualities and civic engagement that characterize the thousands of women who have graduated from Smith College. The student embodies these qualities and serves as an example of scholarship and community service.
Smith College is located in Northampton, Massachusetts. and is one of the largest and most prestigious liberal arts colleges for women in the country, drawing its 2,500 students from 48 states and 72 countries. Its rigorous and varied curriculum is taught by a world-class faculty of teacher-scholars in over 50 fields.

SPHS hosts fashion show!
Last night Saint Peter High School students filled Minnesota Square Park with dancing, music, beautiful clothing, and lots of smiles and laughter as we hosted our first-ever Somali Fashion Show!
Ramadan, a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community for the Muslim religion, happened to fall at the same time as the SPHS prom. Unfortunately, due to the customs of Ramadan, students were unable to attend. After discussing their disappointment with SPHS English Language Learner teacher, Thomas Bollum, together they came up with a plan.
This fashion show was to give students the excitement of getting dressed up and celebrating each other, similar to the Grand March. What a celebration it was!!
The participants showed traditional dresses from their culture that are appropriate to wear to weddings, everyday dress for school, and special occasions. Mr. Bollum, the emcee for the evening, welcomed each participant in true fashion show format. There was also traditional dancing, singing and lots of music!
Many families and students attended, as well as Saint Peter staff that came to show their support. It was such a success plans are already in the works to do it again next year!
