TWO SAINTS’ GOLFERS ARE STATE BOUND! Congrats to Saints’ boys golfers Kade Mata and Owen Matejcek for earning spots in next week’s Minnesota State Class AA Boys Golf Tournament at Ridges of Sand Creek (Jordan). The Saints’ boys placed third in the team standings out of 16 teams, while the girls placed fourth. Southwest Christian won the boys’ title, while Holy Family Catholic topped the girls’ field.

Mata, just a freshman, carded a 36-hole score of 137 (67-70) to win the Section 2AA individual title and earn his first stop trip! Matejcek finished in a ninth-place tie 151 (77-74) overall and he was in fifth place in the boys’ individual standings (not from team champion Southwest Christian) to earn a spot at state for the third straight year!

SAINTS' GOLFERS SHINE AT BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS - Congrats to the Saints’ boys and girls golf teams for their impressive showings at the Big South Conference Championships earlier this week at Dacotah Ridge Golf Club in Morton.

The Saints’ boys racked up their third straight Big South team title with senior Owen Matejcek earning back-to-back overall individual conference champion honors after the four-meet series (three regular season Big South events plus the conference championship meet). Freshman Isaiah Homrighausen won Tuesday’s finale with an 18-round score of 77, with Matejcek right behind with a 78. Those two, along with teammates Ethan Moreau and Kade Mata, were named All-Big South for their efforts this spring.

“The wind was the worst I have ever seen, but our kids stayed mentally tough, composed and focused on the controllables,” Saints’ mentor Neil Doose said. “I’m so proud of their positive attitudes in those conditions. Only 13 golfers below 90 on Tuesday, and we had five of them, including two of our kids in the 70s. It was a good day to have a great day!

The Saints’ varsity girls, coached by Kris Voeltz, also had a good showing during Monday morning’s Big South Championship event at Dacotah Ridge. St. Peter placed fifth after Monday’s results were in and had two golfers, Ashlyn Loula and Natalie Salfer, eventually earn All-Big South honors.
