SPHS drummer Ethan Borowy

Saint Peter High School senior Ethan Borowy has been a mainstay with the school’s Concert Band, Pep Band, and Marching Band’s percussion sections, and his talents have also helped him earn a spot as a member of the renowned Govenaires Drum and Bugle Corps.

Now his talents with the drums have earned him a summer opportunity with the famed-River City Rhythm (RCR) Drum and Bugle Corps where he will play tenor drums/quads for the next few months. Borowy auditioned for the group through a series of winter indoor camps

“I recently signed my contract for the season so it’s now official that I’m a member,” Borowy said. “This should be a great opportunity to perform with some amazingly talented musicians, and also perform in several states around the Midwest.

“I first became involved with RCR by participating in one of their winter indoor drumlines, and because of that experience, the director at the time encouraged me to audition for their summer circuit. Because of my experience with the indoor drumline and with the Govies, I was very well prepared to try out and I’m so fortunate to have been chosen to be a part of the 2026 season.”

Borowy will attend a three-day camp with the other RCR members in late May and then once school is out he will move-in with the team full time as part of their “spring training” in preparation for the summer schedule, which concludes on August 9 with the Drum Corps International World Championships at Lucas Oil Field in Indianapolis, IN. (Click HERE for RCR’s summer schedule.) RCR will perform in six states in all (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, Illinois, and Ohio) and will be part of the Kiwanis Thunder of Drums at Mankato on July 7th.

“I’ve worked hard to get to this point, and this should be a wonderful opportunity,” Borowy said. “It should also be fun because I have some friends in the group as well, so I’ll know a few people right off the bat. We’ll be basically living as part of the band 24 hours a day and sleeping a lot in school gyms all over the Midwest, but it should be a lot of fun.”

Once the summer season with RCR is completed, Borowy will return home briefly before heading to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire this fall for the start of his freshman year. During that time he plans to be a member of the Blugolds Marching Band.
