Minnesota weather can be unpredictable at times. The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority when making decisions about whether or not to close school. Any days where school will not be in session due to inclement weather, our district will participate in a flexible learning day. This means students & staff will participate in online learning. Below is an outline of what a flexible learning day will look like for each age group. If you have specific questions about your student’s plans or activities during these days, please do not hesitate to contact your student’s principal or program lead.
Saint Peter Early Childhood Center (PreK)
The Flexible Learning Day for PreK involves preschool friendly learning activities to do with your child at home. Teachers will send home the Flexible Learning Day BINGO sheet and instructions with your child. Teachers, students, and parents will be able to communicate throughout the day through each classroom’s Homeroom or Seesaw, the Remind App & via email and telephone. Please feel free to post photos of your child and their at home learning.
South Elementary School (Grades K-1)
The Flexible Learning Day for South Elementary School students involves curriculum-aligned activities to be done at home. Teachers will send home flexible learning day packets each month. In the case of a flexible learning day, students are to select five activities from the packet to complete. Parents/guardians should document which activities the child did on the Flexible Learning Day Sheet and send this back to school. Students who return the signed sheet will be marked “present” for school on the flexible learning day while others will be marked absent. Teachers, students, and parents will be able to communicate throughout the day through SeeSaw, phone, email or Google Meet. Please feel free to post photos of your child and their at home learning.
North Elementary School (Grades 2-4)
Students in grades 2-4 routinely use Seesaw to participate in curriculum-aligned learning opportunities in school. They will continue doing so on flexible learning days using their school-issued iPads. In the event of an inclement weather forecast prediction, teachers will attempt to send iPads home with their students. Students will log in to their Seesaw account and complete the learning tasks assigned by their teachers. Teachers will have the day's tasks posted on the Seesaw site by 10:00 am. Teachers can support students/guardians via phone, email, or Google Meet. For students who don't have internet access, teachers will provide time and resources for them to complete the flexible learning day tasks on the next day that school is in session.
Saint Peter Middle (Grades 5-8) &
Saint Peter High School & Rock Bend ALC (Grades 9-12)
Students at the middle school and high school levels use Google classrooms. In the event of an inclement weather forecast prediction, students will be reminded to bring their devices home. There are several internet “hotspots” for students to check out from the media center. Students should know how to access their teacher’s Google classrooms and will be expected to check in for Flexible Learning Day assignments. Teachers will have assignments posted by 10:00 am and are available for questions and discussion via Google classroom or through email during the day. Flexibility on assignment deadlines will be granted to students with limited or no access.
