Saint Peter Middle School seventh graders recently had the opportunity to interact with members of Saint Peter High School’s Project for Teens chapter to discuss the risks of vaping as well as learn the differences between being an upstander and a bystander.
This year’s SPHS P4T chapter has around 45 members in grades 10-12, and co-advisors are SPHS science teacher Dani Roehrkasse and Saints’ Activities Director Shea Roehrkasse.
A large contingent of SPHS P4T students spent the first part of each period on Tuesday, Dec. 12, in Mrs. Veith’s classroom introducing themselves to the seventh graders and learning more about them as well. The classroom activities also included P4T members’ skits, group exercises, and small group discussions between the P4T students and seventh graders.
Project for Teens (P4T) encourages healthy and responsible decision-making by youth through peer-to-peer education. P4T covers various topics, such as face-to-face communication, healthy relationships, consent, kindness, and how to be an upstander. P4T seeks to foster a sense of connection between middle school and high school students and provide students with information and skills to prepare them for responding responsibly should they find themselves faced with an at-risk situation.
