SPMS sixth graders at JA's BizTown

A group of Saint Peter Middle School sixth graders had the chance to travel to St. Paul to visit Junior Achievement North’s BizTown facility on November 21. JA BizTown is a 12,000-square-foot simulated city located in St. Paul.

“JA BizTown offers a valuable hands-on learning opportunity centered around financial literacy and work readiness,” Jacob Malz, SPMS sixth-grade math teacher, said. “Students assume various roles as employees, consumers, and citizens within a miniaturized city setting. This hands-on experience enables students to bridge classroom learning with real-world applications, equipping them for future success in the workforce.”

“Participating in JA BizTown has been the best capstone project experience for our sixth graders,” Brittney Walters, SPMS sixth-grade English language arts teacher, said. “This program uniquely bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world applications, offering students a direct correlation between their education and practical life skills. Through its emphasis on financial literacy, work readiness, and career preparedness, JA BizTown empowers students to envision their individual career trajectories. The excitement and high levels of engagement observed throughout the lessons and field trip experiences emphasize the program's profound impact on students' learning journeys. We are incredibly thankful to our anonymous JA BizTown sponsor for their generous support, enabling every sixth-grade student to participate in this program. Our sponsor’s contribution has made a significant impact, allowing our students to engage and benefit from this invaluable experience.”
