South Elementary's tropical fruit day

South Elementary Food Service staff added a little fun to lunch for South Elementary students today (Friday) during their lunch break by serving them a variety of tropical fruits, which was very well received!

Among the fruits the students tried included pineapple, kumquat, Dragon fruit, star fruit, kiwi, papaya, and red bananas. Coconut water was also served to the students.

"This is the second time we’ve done this and we intentionally target this time of year because it’s still kind of cold out and this helps us have warm thoughts with the tropical fruits," Emily Craig, SPPS Food Service Director, said. "We always are looking to try something new for the kids and this was so well received last year. Fruits like these are easy to serve to kids this age to give them a chance to try something they’re not normally used to eating.

"The kids are so excited and willing to try new things. Our kitchen staff enjoys it as well and they’ve done a great job both years taking this on here at South."
