SPMS History Day Regionals

Congrats to the Saint Peter Middle School students who competed at the Minnesota State Junior Regional History Day competition at White Bear Lake over the weekend. SPMS had 13 students either qualify for state competition or earn an honorable mention award for their efforts.

Those SPMS teachers working with the students included Rachel Ryan, Erika Carlson, Dustin Sharstrom and John Bartholow. School Board member Kate Martens volunteered to lead students in preparing for the regional competition.

“This is by far a school record for us and we couldn’t be more proud of our students who participated in the regional competition,” Mr. Sharstrom said.

The following SPMS students were among those earning an award at the White Bear Lake Junior Regional History Day Competition on March 25th:

State Qualifiers:
* Calvin Kuhlman (Junior Individual Exhibit - Discovering of Nuclear Fusion)
* Lucia Penner  (Junior Individual Documentary - To the Moon and Back: The Space Race)
* Olivia Mish/Makayla Guth (Junior Group Exhibit - The Willmar 8 Bank Strike)
* Jaylin Yost/ Andi Turrittin (Junor Group Documentary - Elizabeth Blackwell: Opening the Medical Profession to Women)
* Molli Weber/Margaux Letts (Junior Group Documentary - Marie Curie: Her Discoveries Changed Science)

Honorable Mentions:
* Scarlett Wendt (Junior Individual Exhibit - The Manhattan Project)
* Nora Barnick & Ivy McHugh (Junior Group Exhibit - Snow White as a Frontier for the Walt Disney Company’s Success)
* Ella Twaddle/Claire Deming (Junior Group Exhibit - Alice Paul & Women’s Suffrage)
